Inter Allies bounced back to winning ways with a slender 1-0 win over Wa All Stars at the Tema Sports Stadium on Sunday in the week 20 match of the First Capital Plus Premier League.

The “Eleven Is To One” had to wait for vice captain Baba Mensah to slot in a powerful penalty in the second half to register first win in the second round.

Inter Allies were on top at the first half, holding grip of possession and dominated most sectors of the game but it was Richard Ofori, All Stars goalkeeper who denied several goalscoring chances.

Head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin dropped Niare Benogo to the bench in place of Lawson Sabah to control the midfield with Emmanuel Nettey.

Ropapa Mensah also started upfront with Sheriff Mohammed leaving Frederick Opoku Yamoah on the left and Lord Ofosuhene on the right side of attack.

Coming from back-to-back home victories over Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak and Inter Allies drawing all four games in the second round prior to this match, the visitors were aggressive and more purposeful from the blast of referee’s whistle.

Ropapa Mensah and Sheriff Deo Mohammed combined to create a chance but the former’s shot was brightly stopped by the goalkeeper.

Moments later, Emmanuel Nettey saw his fantastic free kick blocked once again by the goalkeeper before the halfway break.

Thirteen minutes after the recess, Baba Mensah broke the deadlock. Ropapa Mensah had the ball on the right side, he beat his immediate marker and with a lighting speed got past two defenders but the last marker failed to handle him and brought him down in the box.

Referee William Agbovi took the easiest of decisions and pointed straight to the penalty spot. Vice captain / defender Baba Mensah stepped up and blasted it to the roof of the net – his first of the season.

Paa Kwesi Fabin and his boys kept the momentum and dominated play but failed to add to the tally despite playing so well. Inter Allies held on and after four minutes of stoppage time, they registered first victory in the second round.

The team has now moved to 10th on the league log with 27 points with ten more games to go.
